Sammy, who led the Windies to victory in the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cups, has been in charge of the white-ball sides since May 2023.
From April 2025, he will also take over Test duties, replacing Andre Coley.
Under Sammy's leadership, West Indies have risen from ninth to fifth in the T20 rankings with 20 wins from 35 matches, including home series wins against England, India and South Africa.
The one-day international side has also won four of their seven bilateral series under the 40-year-old former Windies all-rounder.
"Daren Sammy has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his tenure with the white-ball teams," said Cricket West Indies president Dr Kishore Shallow.
"His vision, dedication, and ability to inspire players make him the ideal candidate to lead across all formats. This appointment marks a bold and exciting step forward as we strive to elevate West Indies cricket to new heights."
Sammy's first Test series in charge will be against Australia in June.
Coley, who was at the helm as West Indies claimed a famous win against Australia in Brisbane, will stay on for the two-Test tour of Pakistan in January.
The Jamaican will hope to improve his record of two wins, two draws and seven defeats since taking over in May 2023 before he makes way for Sammy.
