Forest lose appeal against £750,000 fine

In October, they incurred a penalty imposed by the Football Association for an "assault on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale."

On April 21, 2024, Forest expressed their dissatisfaction on X regarding three penalties that were not awarded in their 2-0 loss to Everton in a Premier League match.

The message from Forest indicated that they had previously "cautioned" the referees' organization Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) about Attwell, who served as the VAR for that game, being a supporter of their relegation rivals Luton. However, they noted that "no changes were made," while stating, "Our patience has been tested numerous times."

In October, Forest characterized the fine as "excessive," yet the FA announced on Monday that the appeal board confirmed the penalty.

"In our opinion, a substantial penalty was fully justified for this extremely serious violation," the board articulated in their written statement.

"An aggravating factor of the misconduct was that the tweet reached millions of viewers. Essentially, it became 'viral.' This was both foreseeable and likely intentional.

"It was also foreseeable that this would generate significant distress for the match officials and their families."

Following their defeat to Everton, Forest found themselves merely one point ahead of Luton, although they finished the season in 17th place, six points above the relegation zone. Luton faced relegation.

Currently, Forest holds the third position in the standings with ten matches left in the season.
