Tottenham Sign Savinho from Manchester City in £75m Deal

 Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Brazil winger Savinho from Manchester City for an initial fee of £75m.

The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Spurs in a deal that could reach £85m following an additional £10m in potential add-ons.

The move ends a year-long pursuit by the north London club, who previously failed in a bid to acquire the forward last summer.

"It's taken a while but I'm very happy to be here," said Savinho. "It's a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Savinho joined Manchester City from Troyes in 2024 for £30.8m and registered seven goals and 16 assists across 84 appearances. His opportunities at the Etihad Stadium grew limited under Pep Guardiola last season, resulting in just seven Premier League starts.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi highlighted the attacker's skill set following the announcement.

"Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity," De Zerbi said.

The arrival increases Spurs' summer expenditure past £300m. The club has already added Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for a combined £312m, alongside free transfers Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson, and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Negotiations between City and Tottenham also remain ongoing regarding a potential deal for Egypt forward Omar Marmoush prior to the 1 September transfer deadline.

Savinho's playing time at City saw a sharp drop last term following the January arrival of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. He logged 821 Premier League minutes and featured in 31% of City's total competitive minutes, down from 54% in the previous campaign.

• Key Pass Generation: Averaged 2.2 chance-creating passes per 90 minutes, trailing only Mohamed Salah across the league.

• Progressive Ball Carrying: Completed 6.8 progressive carries of at least 10 metres per 90 minutes, second only to Jeremy Doku among players with over 1,000 minutes.

• Direct Take-Ons: Averaged 2.6 completed dribbles per 90 minutes with a 51% success rate and generated 1.3 chance-creating carries per 90 minutes.

His positional versatility offers immediate options for De Zerbi's tactical system. While Savinho logged 65% of his 2,989 La Liga minutes on the left wing during a breakout 2023-24 season with Girona—scoring nine goals and providing eight assists—his deployment at Manchester City shifted primarily to the right side (36% of total Premier League minutes versus 20% on the left).

With squad integration now underway, Tottenham's focus shifts to whether the Brazilian will make his competitive debut in the upcoming Premier League fixture list following the squad's opening-day defeat to Brentford.
