Scots call up 'two for the future' Miller & Wilson

In the meantime, Steve Clarke has recalled Lewis Ferguson, Kevin Nisbet, and Kieran Tierney to the squad.

Miller, a midfielder from Motherwell, and Wilson, a forward from Hearts, both aged 18, have represented the national team at youth levels. Recently, Miller has taken on the role of captain for his club, while Wilson, who also qualifies for Northern Ireland, has made his way into the Hearts first team in recent months, finding the net six times.

"With numerous withdrawals and injuries, particularly in the midfield and forward positions," Clarke stated.

"I thought it was a good opportunity to evaluate two promising young players who have impressed—Lennon over the past year and James in the last six months. They are players for the future but can also contribute to us now.

"Lennon exhibits a level of maturity that surpasses his age. He possesses many positive attributes: versatility in midfield, good passing ability, and a strong work rate. Now we need to assess how he integrates with the squad.

"[James] is a player who stands out; he makes runs behind defenses and has a keen instinct for scoring, which is a valuable quality. We're always in search of goal scorers."

Clarke's team is striving to maintain their position in League A, starting with an away leg on March 20 at 19:45 GMT, followed by a home leg at Hampden on March 23 at 17:00.

Ferguson, a 25-year-old midfielder from Bologna, missed Euro 2024 due to a long-standing knee injury but has recently returned to play in Serie A. Forward Nisbet, aged 28, has been recognized for his strong loan performance at Aberdeen from Millwall, having scored 10 goals this season, five of which came in his last six matches.

Defender Tierney, now 27, last appeared for Scotland during the Euros, where he sustained a hamstring injury, but has since rejoined the Arsenal squad. He is set to return to his original club, Celtic, this summer.

"It’s always beneficial to have our best players available," Clarke remarked about Ferguson and Tierney. "They have faced unfortunate injuries. Hopefully, they can come back strong and enjoy an injury-free year to support our mission to remain in the top tier of the Nations League and qualify for the World Cup."

"Kevin has scored a few goals lately. When a striker starts finding the net, it can become a habit, so we hope that’s the case with Kevin."

"We aim to remain in the top tier and compete with elite teams, which means we need to overcome a strong Greece side across two fixtures."

"They are a solid team that defends well, concedes few goals, and has the ability to score. Their counter-attacking play, particularly in away matches, is impressive."

"Any team that manages to secure a win at Wembley against England is certainly noteworthy."

Lawrence Shankland, 29, the captain of Hearts, participated in the finals held in Germany but has not been selected for this latest squad.

Ipswich Town forward George Hirst, aged 26, was rumored to be in line for a Scotland call-up, and Clarke mentioned, "It’s a possibility; there was a hold-up with the paperwork."

"George is someone we have been considering for several months. I have observed him lately. He is a player who would enhance our depth in that position, provided we can make it happen."

On Monday, Greece announced their team, with head coach Ivan Jovanovic selecting three players from the Premier League.

Included in Jovanovic's roster of 26 are Odysseas Vlachodimos, the goalkeeper from Newcastle United, Kostas Tsimikas, the defender from Liverpool, and Konstantinos Mavropanos, a defender from West Ham.

Seventeen-year-old Genk midfielder Kostas Karetsas receives his first call-up, while 31-year-old captain Tasos Bakasetas is absent after missing the last four matches for Panathinaikos. Former Celtic forward Giorgos Giakoumakis, who currently plays for Cruz Azul, is also missing from the list.

Scotland and Greece have competed against each other only twice in men's football, both times during the Euro 96 qualifying rounds, with the home team emerging victorious 1-0 in each match.
