Tuchel drops three from England squad to face Albania

Nottingham Forest midfielder Gibbs-White was not part of Tuchel's initial squad but received a call-up following Cole Palmer's withdrawal from Chelsea.

According to Uefa regulations, a manager is entitled to choose only 23 players for a matchday squad.

Tuchel named 26 players for the fixtures against Albania and Latvia, necessitating the omission of three players for each match.

Gibbs-White, along with Liverpool defender Quansah and Southampton goalkeeper Ramsdale, are the three players who did not make the cut for Tuchel's debut match.

Harry Kane will serve as the team's captain, with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice anticipated to begin in midfield.

Phil Foden, Morgan Rogers, and Anthony Gordon are all vying to join Kane in the attacking lineup.

Analysis: 'England to adopt a back four'

One of the significant elements to observe on Friday night is the formation choice made by Tuchel.

Word has it that the squad has predominantly trained with a back four throughout the week, which may hint at England's tactical approach ahead of their match against Albania.

While Tuchel has previously favored a back three—his preferred strategy during his tenure at Chelsea that led him to win the Champions League—current training seems to suggest a shift towards a back four for Friday's match.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who was one of England's prominent performers at Euro 2024, is likely to begin the game on the bench.
