Arsenal will continue to strive for the Premier League title, even after falling 11 points behind the top team, Liverpool, asserts Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.
Last weekend, the Gunners faced a setback in their pursuit of league leaders Liverpool, suffering a 1-0 loss to West Ham at the Emirates.
Historically, only three teams in the Premier League have managed to overcome an 11-point deficit to secure the championship by season's end.
Nevertheless, Arsenal has a game in hand over Arne Slot's squad and is set to visit Anfield on May 10. Arteta maintains that his team is still in contention for the title.
When questioned about conceding the championship, Arteta responded, "Over my dead body. If not, I will go home.
"Mathematically, it is achievable. Just three days ago, the gap could have been closed, and you think, 'You are one-and-a-half games away.'
"The challenge is greater than it was three days ago, but to win the Premier League, you must accomplish something extraordinary.
"If you're aiming for the Premier League victory under our current circumstances, it’s likely that you need to achieve something unprecedented in the league's history."
Injuries to several key players have affected the Gunners this season, and they currently lack the services of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli in their attacking lineup.
Arteta feels that these injuries contributed to the defeat against West Ham, but he noted, "In the previous 15 matches, we had won 10 and drawn five—exactly the same record as Liverpool, with an identical goal difference.
"We have demonstrated remarkable consistency over the past three months considering all the challenges we've faced.
"We built up a certain momentum, and we had to regroup after that weekend, but we suffered a loss. To compound matters, they [Liverpool] won.
"When you're working to build momentum and have invested so much into it given our circumstances, it was a tough defeat to take."
