England striker Ollie Watkins will not participate in the World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday due to an injury.

The 29-year-old was substituted at halftime during the Three Lions' 3-0 victory over Wales on Thursday.

Watkins netted his team's second goal at Wembley but suffered a collision with the post late in the first half after failing to convert a chance.

Following the match, England manager Thomas Tuchel stated that the Aston Villa forward was "fine," but Watkins has since returned to Villa and will be absent for the journey to Riga.

The Three Lions could secure their spot in next summer's World Cup with a win against Latvia, allowing them to qualify with two matches remaining.

Team captain Harry Kane was unavailable for the Wales game; however, Tuchel expressed confidence prior to the match that the Bayern Munich striker would be ready for the clash in Riga.

The 32-year-old participated in training with his England teammates at Tottenham's training facility on Monday.

In Watkins’ absence during the second half at Wembley, Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon shifted to a central role and may do the same in Riga.

Marcus Rashford is another potential option. The Manchester United forward, currently on loan at Barcelona, typically favors playing from the left but has frequently taken on a central role throughout his career.

He has scored 18 goals for England, making him the second-highest scorer in the current squad after Kane.

Watkins debuted for England in 2021 and has recorded six goals across 20 caps.

At the club level this season, the forward has faced challenges, scoring only once in 10 matches.

Aston Villa will face Tottenham on Saturday, October 19, marking their first game after the international break.
