Thomas Partey is "prepared" to compete against Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday, a day prior to his scheduled court appearance regarding allegations of rape and sexual assault, according to Villarreal manager Marcelino.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder was charged last month with five counts of rape involving two women and a charge of sexual assault against another woman.
The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was with Arsenal.
Partey denies all allegations, with his attorney Jenny Wiltshire stating he "looks forward to the chance to clear his name."
He was given conditional bail and, two days after, he signed with Villarreal, who ended up fifth in La Liga last season.
Partey is set to attend Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday for a plea hearing one day following his team's Champions League match against Tottenham, their north London rivals.
"I am fully convinced that he is ready both mentally and technically to play tomorrow," Marcelino remarked on Monday.
"Without a doubt, he will be prepared. We are very pleased that Thomas is with us due to his footballing skills, abilities, and as a person."
"He is a remarkable player with significant experience. He has represented many top clubs. We recognize that he maintains an excellent standard."
When asked if he had discussed with Partey the potential backlash he might receive from Tottenham supporters, the Spaniard emphasized concentrating on the game itself.
"We're making assumptions about and discussing a player who may be completely innocent," Marcelino mentioned.
"We have a football match tomorrow, and what's crucial is the sport itself.
"After all, this is where football originated. Do you understand? Thank you."
Partey transferred from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal in 2020 and made 167 appearances for the club, netting nine goals.
This season, he has played four matches for Villarreal, starting in one of them.
