The news arrives just hours following the failure of a deal aimed at securing Kevin Muscat's move to Ibrox during progressed negotiations.

Rohl, whose previous role was managing Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship, had received support from certain individuals at Ibrox before focus shifted to Muscat.

According to Rangers, talks have persisted with multiple candidates as they aim to name a replacement for the dismissed Russell Martin within the next few days.

Martin was let go after 17 matches on October 5, leaving Rangers in eighth place in the league, trailing nine points behind champions Celtic and two additional points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.

Under Martin's leadership, Rangers also failed to secure a place in the Champions League and lost both matches in the Europa League.

Currently, they are in sixth position in the Scottish Premiership, 13 points behind Derek McInnes’ squad, having achieved just one victory from their last eight matches. They are set to face Brann in the Europa League on Thursday at 17:45 BST.

Muscat is currently managing the Chinese team Shanghai Port, who remain in contention for the Super League title, a competition that may extend into November or December.

The two sides had been in extensive discussions regarding Muscat's return to Glasgow, but the potential delay in his starting date rendered the arrangement unfeasible for both sides.
