Ella Hakkinen, the 14-year-old daughter of Mika Hakkinen, a two-time Formula 1 world champion, has been accepted into the McLaren driver development programme.
Having achieved victories and podium placements throughout Europe in karting, she will be the youngest participant in the programme.
Joining her will be Ella Stevens, a British driver who is recognized as the sole female winner in the UK's leading karting division.
Nineteen-year-old Stevens will compete for the F1 constructors’ champions, McLaren, alongside fellow British driver Ella Lloyd, who is 20, in the all-female F1 Academy series set for 2026.
McLaren has stated that Finnish driver Hakkinen will be testing single-seaters as part of her preparation for the 2027 season.
Mika Hakkinen, who clinched the F1 championship with McLaren in both 1998 and 1999, believes his daughter has the potential to become a prominent figure in the sport.
"Ella possesses remarkable talent as a racing driver. I’m not merely saying this as a father, but as someone who has been a top driver," he expressed to the Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat last month.
