Everton is on the verge of concluding their search for a striker, with Villarreal's Thierno Barry anticipated to arrive in Merseyside for a medical examination prior to finalizing a £27 million agreement.
Although the deal is not officially finalized, progress is being made as manager David Moyes is poised to secure Everton's largest transfer of the summer thus far.
Barry had a release clause of £34.5 million in his contract with Villarreal, but Everton is optimistic about securing him for a lower amount. The 22-year-old contributed 11 goals and four assists across 38 matches last season, helping the Spanish team finish fifth in La Liga and qualify for the Champions League.
His addition will enhance Everton's attacking options following the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the conclusion of his contract.
Additionally, forward Armando Broja left when his loan period ended, returning to Chelsea without the loan being made a permanent transfer.
Barry was born in Lyon and transitioned from the French club Sochaux at the age of 19 to play in the Belgian second division with Beveren.
The subsequent season saw him transfer to Swiss Super League side Basel before making his move to Villarreal in August 2024 for a fee around £13 million.
