French forward Kalimuendo, 23, netted 18 goals in 34 matches last season, contributing to Rennes' 12th-place finish in Ligue 1.

Before this acquisition, Forest had already invested at least £114 million on six new players during the summer transfer window.

Over the weekend, they also secured winger Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town for £37.5 million and nearly £30 million for midfielder James McAtee from Manchester City.

This followed manager Nuno Espirito Santo's comments on Friday, where he expressed concerns about the club's transfer strategy, suggesting that his team is not adequately prepared for a European campaign.

In their opening Premier League match of the season on Sunday, Forest comfortably defeated Brentford with a score of 3-1 at the City Ground.

Kalimuendo will compete with Botafogo striker Igor Jesus to support forward Chris Wood in Espirito Santo's lineup. The 24-year-old Brazil international Jesus was acquired in July for an estimated £10 million.

Beginning his career at Paris St-Germain, Kalimuendo has scored 42 goals in 105 appearances for Rennes since his move in 2022.

He also earned a silver medal with the French national team at the Olympic Games held in Paris last year.

"When I learned of Forest's interest, I felt honored," he stated on the club’s website.

"I’m prepared for this challenge and come with valuable experience. Last season went well with both goals and assists, but I am eager for even more and aim to elevate my game here.

“I am excited about playing in the Premier League and experiencing the atmosphere at the City Ground. I watched several matches from last season, and it’s evident that the fans create a fantastic environment."

Forest will be participating in the Europa League this season as they were promoted to the competition after Crystal Palace dropped to the Europa Conference League.

They transferred Anthony Elanga to Newcastle for a starting fee of £55 million, but despite interest from Tottenham, Morgan Gibbs-White has renewed his contract, prompting Forest to consider potential legal action.
